Vintage French Powder Blue Enamel Kougelhopf Cake Mold / Jelly Mold
Circa: 1930s
DESCRIPTION A charming vintage French enamelware cake or jelly mold (moule à gâteau / kougelhopf), finished in a soft powder-blue enamel exterior with a contrasting clean white interior. Crafted from heavy-gauge enameled steel, the piece features an intricate fluted, swirled dome design with a central chimney to ensure even heat distribution or uniform setting. It comes equipped with its original integrated side hanging ring, allowing it to be hung as decorative wall art when not in use in a French Country, farmhouse, or rustic Brocante-style kitchen.
PROVENANCE Sourced from an antique trade stall at the Ardingly Antiques Fair, West Sussex, UK.
STORY Discovered during a search through the outdoor stalls at Ardingly Antiques Fair, this piece immediately caught the eye due to its vibrant powder-blue hue and classic French kitchenware silhouette. Purchased for £35, it represents a classic piece of early-to-mid 20th-century French culinary history. Utilitarian enamelware of this style was a staple in French households, and surviving examples with intact hanging rings and vibrant color are highly desirable for contemporary country kitchen displays.
CONDITION REPORT Overall good vintage condition displaying authentic age-related character. There is light wear throughout, including small chips and nibbles to the enamel along the raised fluted edges, top rim, and base line, revealing the dark iron substrate beneath. The interior remains bright and clean with minor rim nibbles. Structurally sound with no holes or rust-through.
