Exceptional Swedish Mid-Century Oak Sideboard by Blomstermåla Möbelfabrik, c.1940s
An elegant and beautifully proportioned mid-century Scandinavian oak sideboard, produced by the renowned Blomstermåla Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1940s.
This is a particularly refined example — slightly taller than the standard low sideboards, giving it real presence in a room while remaining clean, balanced, and unmistakably Scandinavian in its design.
Crafted in richly figured oak with a warm, honeyed tone, the cabinet showcases the understated quality and precision associated with Swedish furniture of this period. The front is thoughtfully arranged, with double doors to the left that open to adjustable shelving. In contrast, a single door to the right reveals further shelving alongside a useful internal drawer.
Below, a striking design feature — four generously sized drawers concealed behind a subtly textured fascia — provides excellent additional storage while maintaining the piece’s clean, uninterrupted lines. A single working key operates the doors.
The cabinet is constructed in two sections — a base frame and upper body — allowing for easier transport and secure assembly.
Condition
Presented in very good vintage condition, with light, age-appropriate wear. The colour and patina are particularly appealing, giving the piece warmth and character without detracting from its crisp mid-century aesthetic.
Provenance Story
We sourced this piece from a wonderful private home in London, where it had been carefully kept for many years. The owner, who was in the process of downsizing, originally purchased the cabinet in Sweden — a detail that adds a lovely layer of authenticity to its story. Pieces like this, with a clear Scandinavian origin and domestic history, are becoming increasingly hard to find.
