TITLE Set of 2 French Antique Copper Saucepans / Cast Iron Handles / 19th Century
DESCRIPTION An authentic set of two French antique copper saucepans, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Crafted from thick, heavy-gauge copper, each pan features a hand-riveted cast iron handle with a classic arrow-shaped mounting plate. The copper displays a rich, unpolished patina with natural warm tones, original verdigris, and historic surface character. The interiors retain their original traditional tin lining, showing natural darkening from culinary use. A maker's stamp is present on the base, though heavily worn and faint from age.
PROVENANCE Acquired from an antiques dealer at the Ardingly Antiques Fair, West Sussex, UK.
STORY Discovered at a French Brocante, these saucepans immediately stood out for their robust weight, classic French proportions, and unpolished original state. The set captures the charm of traditional French country kitchenware. What makes them particularly appealing is the arrow-shaped plate design on the cast iron handles—a hallmark of quality historic French metalwork—alongside the faint traces of an original maker's mark stamped into the base.
CONDITION REPORT Good antique condition with age-related wear throughout. The copper bodies show light surface scratches, tarnish, oxidation, and verdigris spots consistent with age. The tin-lined interiors show heavy darkening and wear from historic use. Both cast iron handles remain structurally sound and tightly secured with original copper rivets. The maker's stamp on the base is very worn and difficult to decipher.
MEASUREMENTS Small Pan: Height: 10 cm Width: 16 cm (diameter excluding handle)
