A beautifully crafted mid-century walnut wardrobe designed by Alfred Cox, dating to the 1950s and originally retailed through the esteemed Heal's department store. This triple-door wardrobe exemplifies the clean, elegant lines and practical functionality that defined British mid-century modern design.

Constructed in rich, warm walnut veneer with subtle grain patterning, the piece features a thoughtfully arranged interior: a full-height hanging rail on one side, adjustable/removable shelves on the other, and a secondary rail to the smaller third section—perfect for maximising flexibility in a modern home. The wardrobe can also be separated into sections for easier transport or rearrangement, making it ideal for urban spaces or evolving interiors.

With slender tapered legs and minimalist handles, this is a timeless storage piece that blends seamlessly into both retro and contemporary settings.

Provenance:
We sourced this elegant Alfred Cox bedroom set from a delightful elderly couple in Brighton, who had owned it since new. They recalled purchasing the full suite—wardrobe, dressing table, and chest of drawers—directly from Heal’s on Tottenham Court Road in the early 1960s, just after they got married. It was their first major investment in furniture, chosen for its quality craftsmanship and modern elegance.

The pieces remained in the same Brighton home ever since, carefully looked after and clearly cherished. It’s always a pleasure to acquire items with such a clear and heartwarming history—especially when they’ve been treasured by the same family for over 60 years.
