Description:
A refined and highly functional mid-century walnut chest of drawers designed by Alfred Cox, one of the leading names in British post-war furniture. Crafted circa 1950s, this elegant piece was originally retailed through Heal’s of London and exemplifies the quality and sophistication associated with Cox’s work.

The chest features four generously sized drawers, including a top drawer with built-in dividers—ideal for organising smaller garments or accessories. All drawers glide smoothly and are exceptionally clean inside, showcasing the piece’s careful ownership over the years. The warm walnut veneers are beautifully figured, complemented by the original brass handles that lend a subtle touch of glamour.

Supported by slightly splayed legs and built to Cox’s enduring standard, this chest balances classic design with everyday practicality, making it an ideal addition to any mid-century inspired interior.

Dimensions:

  • Height: 99 cm

  • Width: 88 cm

  • Depth: 46 cm

Condition Report:
Used but in excellent condition. Minor light surface scratches consistent with age, polished in and professionally cleaned. Retains original brass handles and shows very little wear—an exceptionally well-preserved piece.

Provenance:
This chest of drawers forms part of a full Alfred Cox bedroom suite purchased new from Heal’s on Tottenham Court Road in the early 1960s by a lovely elderly couple in Brighton. The set remained in their home for over 60 years, clearly well looked after and appreciated. Their story brings added character to an already beautiful collection of British mid-century design.
