History of the George II style tables

Antique Irish George II-style tables are unique and beautiful pieces of furniture that can add a touch of history and sophistication to any home. These tables were produced during the reign of King George II of Great Britain, from 1727 to 1760, and were crafted in the Irish Georgian style, which was characterized by elegant proportions, intricate carving, and rich wood finishes.

One of the most distinctive features of Irish George II Style tables is their use of high-quality woods, such as mahogany, oak, and walnut. These woods were prized for their durability, beauty, and rich colouring, which added a sense of warmth and sophistication to the furniture. The tables were also often decorated with intricate carvings and inlays, featuring motifs such as acanthus leaves, shells, and other decorative elements.

One of the most popular types of Irish George II-style tables is the Pembroke table. These tables were designed for use in smaller spaces, and typically feature a rectangular top with rounded corners, which can be folded down to save space. They also often feature two drawers and tapered legs, which give the table a light and elegant appearance.

Another popular type of Irish George II-style table is the console table. These tables typically have a narrow, rectangular top and are designed to be placed against a wall or behind a sofa. They often feature decorative carving and inlay work and can be used to display art, books, or other decorative objects.

Irish George II-style tables were often produced in sets, which included a variety of different pieces, such as side tables, centre tables, and dining tables. These sets were typically made to order and were often customized to suit the needs and tastes of the buyer.

Today, antique Irish George II-style tables are highly sought after by collectors and furniture enthusiasts. They are prized for their beauty, craftsmanship, and historical significance, and can add a sense of elegance and sophistication to any home.
