Provenance

This nesting set is understood to have been acquired from a private estate collection of mid-century Scandinavian furniture. While it bears the distinct structural and aesthetic hallmarks of prominent Danish manufacturer Trioh, it is offered as a attributed piece of exceptional 1970s craftsmanship.

Description

This is an iconic and highly functional mid-century modern nest of three coffee tables, crafted in Denmark during the 1970s. The set is masterfully constructed from premium European teak, boasting gorgeous warm tones and a beautiful, pronounced wood grain. The configuration comprises one expansive, low-slung rectangular main table and two smaller square tables engineered to slide seamlessly side-by-side into integrated runners beneath the top frame.

The tops are inset with high-quality ceramic tiles featuring a striking, stylized circular geometric pattern in an organic palette of ochre, terracotta, and rich brown glazes. This tiled feature was immensely popular in 1970s Scandinavian design, specifically intended to withstand hot mugs and glasses without scarring the wood finish underneath. Framed by a chunky, bevelled teak border and supported by minimalist, architectural rectangular legs with sturdy horizontal stretchers, this sculptural set provides immense commercial appeal and enduring mid-century charm.

Condition

The item is in very good vintage condition, with wear consistent with its age and previous use.

Condition points include:

  • The solid teak frames have been cleaned and treated, displaying a beautiful, deep honey-coloured patina with only light surface marks.

  • Ceramic tile tops are fully intact with no cracks, major chips, or loose grout lines.

  • The nested slide-under mechanism works exactly as intended, sliding smoothly on original tracks.

  • The tables have excellent structural integrity with completely rigid, sturdy joints.

These points form part of the item’s age and character unless otherwise stated.

Please study all photographs, as they form an important part of the condition report. Further photographs or a video can be supplied on request.
