Antique French Art Nouveau Copper Planter / Embossed Floral Cachepot / Claw Feet & Wavy


DESCRIPTION An impressive antique copper planter or cachepot, heavily styled with Art Nouveau influence. Crafted with a flared, wavy pie-crust rim, the body features repoussé embossed floral motifs reminiscent of stylised irises or water lilies on both sides. Raised on three prominent riveted claw feet (pieds de lion), the planter displays side loops designed for ring handles or decorative straps. The copper exterior exhibits a rich, warm reddish-amber glow, while the interior retains a dark aged patina from historical use as a flower vessel. A striking statement piece for an entryway console, fireplace hearth, or windowsill.

PROVENANCE Private UK Collection; sourced from an antique fair in Northern France.

STORY Dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, this cachepot embodies the fluid, nature-inspired lines of the French Art Nouveau movement. The contrast between the organic embossed floral detailing, dramatic scalloped rim, and sturdy riveted claw feet gives it an undeniable sculptural presence. Designed to hold potted plants while concealing plain terracotta pots, it brings classic French chateau elegance and warmth to any interior setting.

The copper body is structurally sound with minor surface marks, faint scratches, and light tarnish consistent with age. The riveted feet are firmly attached and stable. Interior displays natural oxidation and darkening from historic plant potting.
