A late 19th-century Italian Neoclassical revival trestle dining table, hand-crafted from solid mahogany. The table features a serpentine-contoured top mounted onto an architectural base, supported by twin fluted column pedestals, bold acanthus-leaf carved scrolls, and bracket feet detailed with carved lattice work. Underneath, the top reveals historical wide-plank joinery with heavy cross-battens. The piece has been refinished in a contemporary style, pairing a warm off-white painted base with a subtle grey top, featuring light hand-distressing along the carved edges to accentuate its structural details and rich history.

Sourced from a private family residence in Normandy, France, prior to their relocation to England.

STORY

We acquired this piece directly from a wonderful family in Normandy as they prepared for their move to England. What immediately stood out was the incredible quality of the underlying hand-carved mahogany base—a stark contrast to lighter modern reproductions—paired with its striking serpentine silhouette. Discovering the historic joinery and original layered bole finish underneath confirmed its authentic late-19th-century heritage, making it a rare find that seamlessly connects classic European craftsmanship with a modern interior aesthetic.

CONDITION REPORT

Offered in excellent restored condition. Structurally sound with tight joinery throughout. The top is fully removable from the base for ease of transport. The painted finish is newly applied and intentionally distressed along key edges to present an aged patina, while preserving the integrity of the antique carved timber beneath. Minor historical marks and light surface variations consistent with age and use.
