Ercol Grandfather Easy Chair / Lounge Chair (c. 1950s–1970s)

The Ercol Grandfather Easy Chair is a hallmark of British mid-century design. Introduced as part of the Windsor collection in the post-war years, it was created by Lucian Ercolani to combine comfort, lightness, and modern elegance.

Handcrafted from solid beech and elm, the chair features a steam-bent spindle backrest, gently splayed legs, and slender outward-angled arms. Its open frame and generously cushioned seat give it a relaxed, airy presence, making it as suited to contemporary interiors as it was to 1950s living rooms.

Originally supplied with webbed seat support and wool or textured fabric cushions, the lounge chair is now a favourite for reupholstery, often dressed in bold patterns or muted linens to suit today’s interiors. Its timeless form works seamlessly in both minimalist and eclectic spaces.
